Rangers Lead The Way...

The Rangers are specialized infantry units of the United States Army. Rangers are given much tougher training than other infantrymen. The Rangers were organized in 1942, during World War II, under the leadership of Colonel William O. Darby. The first regiment of 2,000 men were formed in Great Britain. It consisted of volunteers from the American Commando School. About 9 out of 10 of the first regiment lost their lives opening up enemy defenses before invasions.

The mission of the Rangers is to plan and conduct special military operations in support of United States policy and objectives. This mission is accomplished by strike, light infantry, and special military operations against targets, and under conditions which require the unique capabilities of the unit. Targets include strategic, significant tactical value, and extremely time sensitive or of a critical nature. Operational conditions require Rangers to be highly trained, highly deployable, flexible, and totally reliable.

Disclaimer: All of the information regarding small arms and other military weapons & vehicles are all general knowledge and are unclassified publicly available bits of information. In no way am I telling anything that is a secret! By the way, thanks to Specialforcese.net from whom I stole the above description, & probably some of the military jpegs.

M4 Rifleman/M2 Gunner

The Browning M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun, Heavy barrel is an automatic, recoil operated, air-cooled machine gun with adjustable headspace and is crew transportable with limited amounts of ammunition over short distances. By repositioning some of the component parts, ammunition may be fed from either the left or right side.

A disintegrating metallic link-belt is used to feed the ammunition into the weapon. This gun is has a back plate with spade grips, trigger, and bolt latch release. This gun may be mounted on ground mounts and most vehicles as an anti-personnel and anti-aircraft weapon. The gun is equipped with leaf-type rear sight, flash suppressor and a spare barrel assembly. Associated components are the M63 antiaircraft mount and the M3 tripod mount.

Side & tail lights were originally painted on. I replaced them with actual bulbs & reflectors, though they aren't functional.

Doors removed, functional 3 point seatbelts added. Seats and roll cage padded. Sandbags under the seats offer some protection from explosions.

The mirrors originally were mounted on stalks from the hood. Realistically they are mounted from the windshield, sort of as shown.

Radio mounted. I replaced the plastic molded wires with real ones on the radio & handset.

This is a Hasbro Humvee. It is much better to scale than 21st Century Toy's offerings, but still lacked some detail. I modified it by removing the stock grenade launcher & adding the 21st Century Toys M2 machinegun. I also padded the seats with foam to simulate cushions. I added the AN/PRC117 radio which includes battery backup. The radio is BBI I believe. The radio's framing doubles as a rifle rack that can hold 2 M-4s. I mounted a GPS to the dashboard. For backup, they have a Nokia cell phone. Hey, even Rangers like to call home occasionally!
