Some people think that jumping out of a
perfectly good airplane is insane. Well, SEALs are trained to jump
from 40 thousand feet up. That is about 5 miles off the ground.
This is a SEAL in HALO gear. HALO
stands for high altitude, low opening. The idea is to jump from a
height where the enemy's radar doesn't perceive you as a threat, then
freefall and open the chutes at a low altitude as to minimize the
chance of him seeing the chutes.
The operative needs to carry a small
air supply as you can't breathe at that altitude. Sometimes you have
to HALO into the ocean, & swim the 12 miles in. All that for very
little pay!
You'll notice the swim fins are taped
to his calves. I based this on how the SEALs were kitted up in
the film. I don't know if they really do that or not, but it
looked good.
